SPUME
by ANNA BERGMAN

I was angry this morning

so I bundled up

walked to the Atlantic

and planted my feet next to a seagull

I never liked them much

school was near the Pacific

where they hovered, hungry for lunch

shitting on our jacket sleeves

Today a seagull stood with me

sharing a spell of seabreeze

until he turned away, his tail

black and white polka dots

like a scarf my mom used to wear

I’m capsized by details

seabedded

I’m chewing on everything, language

leaves

I’ve lived so many places

revising

the foam teases my sneakers

like any ocean is home
